Who can rent a room?

Students in the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen’s area of responsibility. If there’s room available we also accept students from other universities, who give a reason for their temporary residence (practise, hospitation.

How short/how long?

The minimum leasing term is one month. The general maximum term is 5 years. “Guests” (trainees etc.) can rent a room for a maximum of one year.

When should I apply?

We recommend to apply as early as possible. When the contract is concluded, you have to prove that you are a student. You are allowed to send your reservation request in advance which is free of charge and not legally binding. Obligations arise as soon as you accept our offer.
For administrative reasons we save your personal data in our EDP. The data is only used for this purpose and is not passed on to others.

How do I apply?

You can fill out an online reservation form.
We will put your request on our waiting list. All vacancies are offered in order of the waiting list. You should respond to any of our offers within 8 days, or we will assume that you are no longer interested.

Where can I get more info?

If you have any questions or cannot find the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact us in writing, per telephone or per e-mail in the section “student living”. If writing please state where you study as we are responsible for a number of universities.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, there is. The estimated waiting time is stated on the reservation form. These periods are usually the longest at the beginning of each semester.

Which housing conditions are available?

Our residencies offer various types of lodgings:

  • Rooms (mostly with basin) in units with shared kitchen and shared bathroom.
  • Flat sharing for 2 to 7 people, with shared kitchen and bathroom.
  • apartments with own kitchen and bathroom.
  • Double apartments (two rooms) with (small) kitchen and bathroom. Suited to well acquainted friends/couple.
  • Flats (usually) for families.

How well equipped are the rooms?

Please read our information leaflets for details and see the Internet site concerning the residential accommodations.

Most rooms are furnished and there are laundry facilities and telephone/cable and satellite connections.
There are common rooms and rooms for bicycles in most of the buildings.
Internet connection via the computer center of the university is available in some of the buildings. But we are planning to provide it in all of our residences.

What can be found in a furnished room?

Usually there is a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, a chair and a shelf. In some rooms there is also an armchair. You will need to bring your own dishes, bedding etc…

How high is the rent?

All prices given in brochures or on the internet are examples. The price we name to you in your offer is binding. Payments cover all running costs (e.g. heating, water, cable, use of common rooms) including the rent. In some cases electricity must be paid seperately by usage.
When signing the contract you are required to pay a deposit of one month’s rent.

Are there rooms for disabled students?

The Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen owns a number of rooms adapted for disabled students. Although we do aim to meet the needs of individuals, these rooms are not as well equipped as they could be. We are working on it. If you are interested in a room with special facilities please contact our administration for the residential accommodations.
