Homeshare plus

More and more students are looking for affordable housing space. At the same time there are often elderly people who have a vacant room and wish for support in regard to their daily lives. The project  ”Wohnen für Hilfe plus“ (homeshare) considers these aspects and wants to bring about housing partnerships between young and elderly.

A cross-generational homeshare has advantages for both sides: students find a cheap or even free accommodation while interested senior citizens get personal help and relief in everyday life. How this might exactly look like is an individual agreement between the two parties. Support could possibly be: shopping, cooking, cleaning of the flat, lawn mowing or weeding, animal care, trips to the doctor, going for walks, writing letters, reading the newspaper aloud etc.  Nursing activities are explicitly excluded.

In exchange for this help the student is offered an inexpensive room or flat. As a rule of thumb: every hour of help per month means that the rent for one square meter of housing space will be waived.

To meet the different needs of students and elderly people, there is a close support of several cooperation partners under the lead of the Student Services OstNiedersachsen. These partners are the Seniorenbüro of the city of Braunschweig, SIS (Seniorpartner in School e.V.) and ambet (Ambulante Betreuung hilfs- und pflegebedürftiger Menschen e.V.).

Interested persons will receive further information at the Student Services by phone (0531) 391-4820 or via e-mail:
