If you have a study placement this doesn’t automatically mean that you have a room. You have to apply for that separately. The waiting lists are normally very lond (partial over 2 years) so you need to apply far in advance.
The application to a place on the waiting list isn’t binding. You don’t need to be enroled in a university to get on the waiting list. If you get mail with our offer and you respond to it then is the contract binding. Please consider that you will apply with many more students and who comes first gets at first a placement.
In all cases: If you shouldn’t react to out offer than you’re name on the waiting list is subscribed. So please tell us wheather you want to stay on the list or not.
The next biggest airport is in Hanover. Your arrival to your university and residential accommodation can be planned with the help of the DB or within Lower Saxony with the forum EFA which lists all bus connections. The lockers in the train station can be used to store items in short term. But there’re not always free of charge. If you’ll arrive without a fixed placement for a room you find under the heading links a link to the webpage of your university. There you can find a list of hotels. Sometimes the Studentenwerk has a room available on short term but that happens very rarely.
You can ask the residence administration in case of total urgency.
Attention: If you have a contract with the Studentenwerk but you’ll arrive on a weekend then you need to stay in a hotel room till the room is available to you.
For your move in you need to make an appointment with the caretaker (contact data on the overview page of the residence). Please note that he doesn’t work on weekends or during the night. Please adjust your arrival with it and overbridge the time with a hotel room.
When moving in you need to fill out with the caretaker a report sheet. There’re normally damages noted. Make sure that the report is filled out correctly and that all bigger damages (furniture etc.) all reported. In another case you may be made responsible for those damages.
Important note: You are not allowed to let other people live by you! A violation means instant dissmissal! Controls are been done.
The most important rules and notes to the living in residence can be found in the house rules which is given to you with your tenancy contract.
For most questions qhich concern the living in residence is the caretaker responsible for. Questions concerning the tenancy contract should be answered with the residential accommodation administration.
Please recognize that your contract is limited. Take care of an extension at least 1 month before end of contract. Make sure that you can do so.
If you want to move out contact the caretaker at least 2 weeks before the move out date. Pay attention that the record os filled out correctly as in move in and move out because it becomes legally binding after signing.
The rooms have to be given swept clean. The caretaker eventually makes a prior control where he tells you what you have left to do. If you hand over the room in an untidy situation then you will need to pay for the repair of all damages and for the cleaning.
Your deposit will be payed back onto your bank account or you can get is directly at the cash desk in the main administration (Braunschweig, Katharinenstr. 1). The repair of the damages which were made by you will be taken from the deposit.
